Secret Panel Card

Hello!

I guess you could call this the post that almost wasn't. What a morning of cardmaking disaster!

Every morning I post my blog and then before I start my day I check out all my follower's blogs and a few favorites to see what everyone has created and leave comments when I can because I know how I love to receive them and know that someone is looking at my blog. :<)

Well today I did it in reverse because I had one last step to do on my card for today's post and so checked everyone's blog out first. Good thing I did I guess, because that last step in my cardmaking destroyed my card and I just finished up another project that was for Monday's post so I could post something today. I have to tell you, a few words were said very loudly!

I was making a 'cracked glass' card - and had used post-it notes to overstamp and colored in with markers, etc. so the card itself took a long time to make. This morning I had only to do the embossed layer on top of the card, so I applied the Versamark and the clear embossing powder and used the heat gun. The first layer didn't look quite right, but because I had used colored markers on colored paper I thought that this was why. Wrong. I don't know what the powder was but the second coat instead of melting smooth became very rough and obliterated most of my image! It couldn't be saved and I had to throw it away.

So what to do? I was not finished with the Secret Panel card that I was making for Monday's post but that was my only other option if I wanted to post today with a card. I saw this card on a video on Dawn's site at http://dawnsstampingthoughts.typepad.com/ quite some time ago and had been wanting to make one. It took a lot of time to stamp and create but was lots of fun. Except - when it came time to photograph it - not fun. Had to hold it for some of the shots and now I understand why some bloggers like to make videos! :<)

After I had finished the card I thought, there must be some other way to finish this card as it is so narrow and an odd shape to mail. So I searched the web and sure enough, Dawn had a second video to show how to complete this card. Ha! I knew it! But of course, when I tried to remove my 'cover' panel it was too well glued and no way was I going to have another card destroyed today! I will make another Secret Panel card and finish it in the way of the second video.

Here is my Secret Panel card. This is the 'cover' of my skinny card. :<)

It opens to this . . .

and then to this . . .

but wait! There is a hidden panel!

Look at that!

This is when the card is opened flat. Maybe I will do a tutorial when I make the next one. :<)

Thanks for stopping by today!

I am making another fleece blanket this weekend but will try to make another of the card that was destroyed today for Monday's post. What a morning! The sunshine is back though today here in WI - no more rain and we even had snow!

Take care. :<)

Hello Barbara,
I knew how you felt exactly. Make a card and mess it up.

It sure is a fun card. Great spring card with so many hidden items. We had the craziest weather. Yesterday the temperature was in the upper 90 and today it went down to 62.

P.S. Don't worry about wasting the roses, Barbara. I can always send you some more. Really!

Wonderful, fun card Barbara! I had to chuckle with your story because it has happened to me and sometimes I think I should have stopped where I was although it wasn't quite completed. Your card is fun and I love your images and stamping, and coloring! Have a wonderful weekend...crafting! Hugs, Cami

Take heart---we have ALL been there, done that! I know the pain and frustration! But your card looks good and I look forward to the tutorial. We won't talk about the book I made for the post that um, won't close...and no, it's not because of too many pop-dots, really-it's not!~ : (
