I Missed Monday! A Sneak Peak at the Wedding Project.
I was so busy working on the wedding project of a pop-up card and Magic Box with a pop-up card inside that I forgot to post yesterday! I worked on it all weekend and yesterday and it is now finished except for detail touches. I am posting a sneak peak photo of the box.
Because my friend Michelle, the person who ordered the card, did not know that I was making the Magic Box also - I ran out of the specialty card stock, having been given only one 12" x 12" piece. I went back to the store to get more and wouldn't you know, the girl who is getting married this weekend had purchased all of that card stock to use in making her invitations, etc. Yikes! So I had to improvise and use some of my SU paper in the design. But I used that one piece of original specialty paper down to the very last snippet. I am posting a photo of what is left of that paper! (And I still may use the snippets!)
Michelle came to see the card last night and the Magic Box was a big surprise. She was very happy! It makes one feel very good when what is made for someone brings joy to their face when they see it. :<} Michelle is going to try to find me another piece of the specialty paper as I would like to make some detail finished using that paper. Hopefully . . . I am going to make one more accessory piece to go with the card and box I think, we shall see how it turns out today. Wishing you a good one! Thank you for stopping by!

Something For The Guys
Happy Sunday to you!
It is a beautiful sunny day here in WI this morning!
Today I am posting something for the guys - small matchboxes made to look like a men's dress shirt and tie. The matchboxes were made using the SU die, then decorated and filled with a treat! The guys I have tested these on loved them! Maybe it was the treats. :<}

I have had requests to show how I make the pop-up cakes so will try to put together a photo sequence next week. I am in the process now of making both a card and a magic box with the pop-up cakes - for someone to give as a wedding gift next weekend, so I will photo a sequence after that.
I will be posting the new cake and card soon!

A Boy And A Girl Cat Doll
I have been so busy with a new project that I was afraid I would not only be late again today, but I might forget to post at all.
So I looked in my photo files for something I thought you might like to see and I am posting photos of a cat doll that I made - two versions of the same doll - a boy and a girl - with a toy mouse.

Long Day
I am very late today. A very long day, stressful.
I am posting my wedding pop-up cake. I was very happy the way it turned out. I love making these cakes! The next one I make though will be inside another Magic Box as I love the surprise and the lovely layout when the box is opened.
The pop-up cake die is made to fold in half into the card and pop open again when the card is opened, but so far I have not done this with my samples.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day! Thank you for checking out my blog!

A Lovely Watercolor Rose
Good Morning!
I was going to post my new pop-up cake today, but it is such a gloomy mornng here in WI that I thought I needed to see some color! The rose on today's card was made using watercolor pencils on colored card stock with a touch of glitter on the edges to make it pop. It is very popular now to make roses using an ink wash on watercolor paper. Since I had no watercolor paper on hand I had to use another technique to make my rose.
I first stamped the rose all over the white card stock using the blue ink. I used a die to cut the blue Top Note and layered it with the coral card stock. Then I stamped the rose on coral card stock and the leaves on celery card stock using white craft ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. The shading on the rose and the leaves was done using watercolor pencils and a blender pen to create depth. I cut out the rose and the leaves and I used glitter to edge the petals. When it was all layered together using dimensionals, it made a lovely card!

Top of the Birthday CakeA few days ago I posted photos of a Magic Box I had just made - my first pop up cake using the Sizzix die from Stampin' Up. Today I have my second completed cake for show 'n tell. :<}
I worked all day and evening yesterday to create this little cake and the card it sits on, and they are certainly a labor of love to create as the process is very labor intensive. I used two of the prints from SU's Sweet Always designer paper series for the sides of the cake and on the inside of the card. I do not normally use these colors but it was fun to plan how to showcase the colors in the papers and I was delighted with the results. It was great fun to make this cake!
Late in the evening, before going to bed, I went back into my studio area to check out the cake one last time and wondered to myself how an all white cake would look and the next thing I saw when I thought to look at the clock to see the time, it was 1:30 am and I had a white wedding cake completed! I still have to finish the card detail and the accessories, but I will post it tomorrow.

A Wall Doll
Today's photo is of a pretty little wall doll that I made for a doll challenge. We were given a pattern and asked to create a doll in whatever style we felt this shape represented. I had a piece of lovely lilac colored fabric and starting with that as my center, I started to set aside other fabrics that coordinated with the lilac until I created a very pretty combintion that I liked. Then I pieced and sewed these fabrics into a small crazy quilt, from which I cut the doll's body piece. The arms and head I made from the lilac.
I was at a loss as how to finish this little doll as I had her pictured in my mind as a more exotic style doll than how a quilted fabric is normally used - as in a 'country' style. I remembered that I had a box put away with some unusual bits of fabric that were not what I normally used and when I found it under the bed and opened it - there was this piece of beautiful shimmery net that I had not thought I would ever use but could not bring myself to discard. It was perfect. Added some earrings and she was complete. This is one of the few dolls that I have made that has no facial features. Somehow she was beautiful without them. She is a special doll and hangs on the wall in my studio,

SU Card Stock Colors and Designer Paper Samples Rings
Well the sun finally came out this afternoon, but now there are severe thunderstorm warnings for our area later today. My weather radio alert siren went off today for the first time this summer and scared me to death! I have it set to send an 'alert' and a weather report if there is potential severe weather in the county I live in and the surrounding counties. I had plugged the radio in about a week ago, as it is that time of year again here in WI for severe storms and/or tornados, but I wasn't expecting the siren to go off as the sun was out and I had definitely not remembered how loud the siren is!
To get to the subject of today's post: One of the most helpful things I have made to assist me in my card making has been to assemble a ring of all the SU card stock color samples by their SU family - Bold Brights, Earth Elements, Rich Regals, Soft Subtles and the 4 In Colors. In addition to that ring, I also made a ring of all the SU Designer Paper series that I have purchased by their individual series. And last, I made a smaller ring of all of the card stock colors by color shade. All of the colors of the SU families listed above - BB, EE, RR, SS and the 4 In Colors - are included together in this one, so that I can see at a glance the difference between the color shades of the different families. (blues, reds, greens, etc.) This was very time consuming I admit, but well worth the effort - as they are each a permanent tool to use and need very infrequent updating.
For the card stock color samples, I used a large scallop circle punch for each color and wrote on the circle the name of the color. I layered these by family and punched a circle of white, wrote the family name on it and put one before each family of colors - these served as dividers. For the DP samples, I again used a large scallop circle punch and this time I just layered the individual pattern samples in each series and wrote on a white divider the name of the DP series and also the coordinating card stock colors used in those patterns. In the smaller color ring, I used a small square scallop punch to punch a square of all the colors of card stock, wrote the color name on it and layered them by color shade with no dividers - just had the reds run into the oranges run into the yellows, etc.
In the photo above you can see the SU card stock colors in the ring on the upper left (each color circle has its color name on it and the white dividers have the family name on them), the Designer Paper samples in the ring on the upper right (white circles have the individual DP series name on them and the pattern circles of that series are layered behind them) and the smaller squares in the ring at the center bottom show all the card stock colors (each square has the color name on it) by color shade.
